Beyond Penguins and Polar Bears (http://beyondpenguins.nsdl.org), a
NSF-funded project of the School of Teaching and Learning, College of
Education and Human Ecology, has been awarded the AAAS Science Prize for
Online Resources in Education (SPORE). Launched in March of 2008, Beyond
Penguins and Polar Bears consists of 20 thematic issues relating elementary
science concepts to the real-world context of the polar regions. Beyond

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) has just released The Nation’s Report Card: Science 2009. The 2009 science report presents results for students in grades 4, 8, and 12. National results for each of the three grades are based on representative samples of public and private school students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the Department of Defense schools. State results are reported separately for fourth- and eighth-grade public school students from 46 states and the Department of Defense schools.
