NV STEM Smart Workshop

This meeting highlighted issues in the NRC report, Successful K-12 STEM Education, with a special focus on technologies to promote K-12 STEM learning and teaching. It included breakout sessions on projects, resources, and initiatives that align with the report’s evidence base on effective instruction, access to high quality STEM for all students, and building supportive infrastructure. Presenters were drawn largely from NSF-supported programs, and well-recognized STEM Schools. Participation by teams was encouraged.

NSF DR K-12 Program Webinar

We invite you to learn more about the National Science Foundation’s Discovery Research K-12 program, as well as the recently released DR K-12 soliciation. The DR K-12 program supports projects that develop and study resources, models and technologies for science, engineering, technology and mathematics education. The Discovery Research K-12 program (DR K-12) seeks to significantly enhance the learning and teaching of science, technology, egineering and mathematics (STEM) by preK-12 students, teachers, administrators, and parents. All DR K-12 projects should be framed around a research question or hypothesis that addresses an important need or topic in preK-12 STEM education. The emphasis in DR K-12 is on research projects that study the development, testing, deployment, effectiveness, and/or scale-up of innovative resources, models and tools. DR K-12 invites proposals that address immidiate challenges that are facing preK-12 STEM education as well as those that anticipate a radically different structure and function of preK-12 teaching and learning. DR K-12 especially encourages proposals that challenge existing assumptions about learning and teaching within or across STEM fields, envision the future needs of learners, and consider new and innovative ways to support student and teacher learning. DR K-12 is particularly interested in projects that hold promise for identifying and developing the next generation of STEM innovators (NSB, 2010). There are four strands described in detail in the soliciation: 1) Assesment; 2) Learning; 3) Teaching; 4) Scale-up.

DR K-12 Letters of Intent are due on Octover 4, 2012 at 5pm (local time)*

DR K-12 Full Proposals are due on December 6, 2012 at 5pm (local time)
