2011 STEMtech Conference
2011 STEMtech ConferenceEvent Date: toThe League for Innovation in the Community College is proud to announce its second annual STEMtech conference, October 2 - 5, 2011, at Indianapolis' new JW Marriott. Proposals to present at the 2011 STEMtech can be submitted online. April 15, 2011 is the deadline for submitting proposals to present at the 2011 STEMtech. Educators, industry leaders, and others will gather to discuss increasing student access into and success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors and careers. The 2011 STEMtech will also help educators explore the strategic use of information technology to better serve their students, campuses, and communities. Over 400 sessions will cover everything from recruiting and retaining students for STEM-related programs to using information technology to improve organizational and student learning.
In addition to the onsite conference, a web-based version of the conference, STEMtech Online, October 3-4, will integrate virtual participants with participants of the onsite conference. STEMtech Online participants can attend presentations, chat and network with other participants, and visit the exhibition hall. Like the onsite conference, STEMtech Online will have a strong focus on STEM in general education and workforce training, while also exploring the intelligent application of information technology in educational institutions. STEMtech Online allows individuals to participate in a great conference without incurring travel expenses. Because travel costs and online conference fees are reduced, more people will be able to participate in the most exciting professional development opportunity to come along in some time. As an added bonus, STEMtech Online participants receive a one-year membership to iStream, the League for Innovation's web-based professional development portal. A special room rate for conference participants has been arranged at the JW Marriott Indianapolis. Opening February, 2011, the newly constructed downtown JW Marriott Indianapolis hotel is steps from White River State Park, the Indianapolis Zoo, and many museums. The JW Marriott Indianapolis is convenient to the State Capitol, Lucas Oil Stadium, and Conseco Fieldhouse, and is in the heart of downtown, world-class shopping, and exquisite dining options. FIE Conference
FIE ConferenceEvent Date: toCelebrating 41 Years of Monumental Innovations From Around the World2011 Frontiers in Education ConferenceRapid City, South Dakota, October 12 - 15, 2011http://fie-conference.org/fie2011/ On behalf of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Rapid City, and the three sponsoring societies, we are pleased to welcome you to FIE 2011. In the 30 years since FIE was last hosted in Rapid City, we’ve seen many innovations in engineering and computer science education. During that time, the Frontiers in Education Conference has become the premiere conference for innovative curricula and engineering education and research excellence. This would not have been possible without the vision and strong leadership of the three sponsoring professional societies – ASEE Educational Research and Methods Division, IEEE Education Society, IEEE Computer Society. We, along with the sponsoring societies, are proud of the rich traditions of the FIE and the many engineering educators and educational researchers from around the globe who have contributed so much to our present understanding of how students learn. The theme of this year’s conference, “Monumental Innovations from Around the World” celebrates both this diverse community of international scholars and the rich history of educational research over the past thirty years that has ushered in a new era for engineering and science education. It seems only fitting then that we continue this celebration of excellence by hosting this year’s reception at Mt. Rushmore National Memorial. FIE 2011 has an exciting and innovative technical program which is made possible by the Planning Committee, a large group of dedicated professionals who volunteer their time to this cause. The program co-chairs from the sponsoring societies – Jim Morgan of ERM, Arnold Pears of the IEEE Computer Society, and Susan Burkett of the IEEE Education Society – coordinate the paper review process and organize the technical sessions. The program co-chairs are joined by the Internal Program Chairs, Melany M. Ciamp and Edumndo Tovar Caro and the Special Sessions Chair Jeff Froyd. Krishna Madhaven, as the New Faculty Fellows Chair, coordinates the new faculty fellows program, a valuable influx of new people and innovations. Robert Hofinger continues in his key role as Exhibits Chair and Ed Jones as Conference Historian. We are pleased to have had such a dedicated group of program chairs who provide countless hours to organize the technical sessions, workshops, and special sessions that make FIE the innovative and compelling conference that it is. In addition to the technical program, there is a great deal of logistics and support planning that must be accomplished to make FIE the special conference that it is. We are both fortunate and thankful for the logistics support from Kevin Curry and the Kansas University Continuing Education staff and to Dan Budny, Publications Chair. In addition to providing all of the logistical and publications support that is necessary for the conference, Kevin and Dan provide the continuity and institutional memory that is necessary for the planning committee to do its job. In addition, we would like to thank Larry Richards and the FIE 2010 Planning Committee who continue to offer the support and guidance for the FIE 2011 program. Finally, we would like to thank the FIE Steering Committee for their leadership in ensuring the uniqueness that is FIE. FIE is more than just a place to present papers. It is a place to meet and welcome new people and welcome old colleagues. It is a place to interact and discuss new ideas and new innovations. In short, it is a place to build not only a community of scholars but a community of friends. While you are here, we hope that you will have an opportunity to visit some of attractions in Rapid City and the Black Hills. A few of our favorites are Custer State Park, the Badlands National Park, and Spearfish Canyon. Fans of the TV show can visit the real Deadwood and play a hand of poker. More |

Fall CUE Conference
Fall CUE ConferenceEvent Date: toPresenting at the Fall CUE 2011 Conference
SPEAKER SUBMISSIONS FOR FALL CUE 2011 IS NOW OPEN
Deadline to submit workshops is January 31, 2011
Deadline to submit concurrent session is May 2, 2011 All speakers who submit a session will be notified by July 31, 2011. Click to view the speaker selection process.
TYPES OF SESSIONS This section describes each category and the review process for each.
Concurrent Sessions Concurrent sessions are one-hour, lecture-style presentations that address all areas of the curriculum and appeal to a variety of teachers. Sessions may be given by a single speaker, team or panel who can address the needs of the novice user of educational technology as well as the more experienced professional. Hands-On Workshops Hands-on workshops are three-hour presentations for 25-30 participants in either a Mac Lab, Windows Lab or Bring Your Own Laptop (BYOL) lab. Each registrant will have their own computer. Topics on specific software applications should also be curriculum related. Please specify all equipment and software applications required for the workshop. We are also interested in hands-on workshops for hand-held computers and digital cameras. Commercial or vendor-led workshops are not offered at CUE. Instead, we'd suggest that interested vendors sign up for a corporate room and plan your own sessions (see below for information). Corporate Room Sessions Looking to showcase your product or service with a one-hour pop up session at the Fall CUE Conference? CUE is offering spaces for interested vendors to purchase sessions in a room all day or just single sessions. The room would allow your corporation to present your product in the best possible light. A projector, screen and a single wired Internet drop is included. Your sessions will be also included in the conference program/addendum and listed as commercial sessions (must be submitted by published deadlines). Sponsorship information click here. Spotlight Speakers Suggestions for Spotlight and Keynote Speakers are taken from the Conference Committee, the Board of Directors, and others. The Regional CPC establishes a priority list. Spotlight speakers must give three presentations. Spotlight speakers are sought from both inside and outside California and bring a national perspective to CUE. Speaker fees and other expenses are covered up to a budgeted amount.

2011 DR K-12 Program Webinar
2011 DR K-12 Program WebinarEvent Date: to![]() NSF DR K-12 Program Webinar We invite you to learn more about the National Science Foundation’s Discovery Research K-12 program -- which supports projects that develop and study resources, models and technologies for science, engineer, technology and mathematics -- as well the recently released solicitation. Discovery Research K-12 (DR K-12): DR K-12 invites proposals that meet a variety of educational needs, from those that address immediate challenges facing preK-12 STEM education to those that anticipate the future when expectations, roles and resources are likely to be aligned in different ways. DR K-12 especially encourages proposals that challenge existing assumptions about learning and teaching within or across STEM fields, envision needs of learners in 10-15 years, and consider new and innovative ways to support learning. Project goals, designs, and working strategies should be informed by prior research and practical experience drawn from all relevant disciplines and they should focus on concepts and skills that are central to STEM disciplines. Revisions to this year’s solicitation include: (1) Adjustments to the award amount and duration of Full Research and Development awards; (2) A call for highly innovative learning materials into Strand 2 and eliminated previous Challenge 5; and (3) New deadlines for conference and workshop proposal submissions, which may no longer be submitted at any time during the year and are now due at the same deadline as all other DRK-12 proposals.
