DR-K12 Proposal Deadline
DR-K12 Proposal DeadlineEvent Date:The Discovery Research K-12 (DR K-12) program solicitation has been revised in order to clarify several aspects of the call for proposals. It includes new material describing project methodologies that may be appropriate at various stages along the research and development trajectory for innovative resources, models, or tools for STEM education. It also explains expectations for external evaluation of project activities, a new opportunity for voluntary submission of preliminary proposals, and an explanation of NSF's policy regarding salary compensation for senior project personnel. Please be advised that the NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) includes revised guidelines to implement the mentoring provisions of the America COMPETES Act (ACA) (Pub. L. No. 110-69, Aug. 9, 2007.) As specified in the ACA, each proposal that requests funding to support postdoctoral researchers must include a description of the mentoring activities that will be provided for such individuals. Proposals that do not comply with this requirement will be returned without review (see the PAPP Guide Part I: Grant Proposal Guide Chapter II for further information about the implementation of this new requirement) As announced on May 21, 2009, proposers must prepare and submit proposals to the National Science Foundation (NSF) using the NSF FastLane system at http://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/. This approach is being taken to support efficient Grants.gov operations during this busy workload period and in response to OMB direction guidance issued March 9, 2009. NSF will continue to post information about available funding opportunities to Grants.gov FIND and will continue to collaborate with institutions who have invested in system-to-system submission functionality as their preferred proposal submission method. NSF remains committed to the long-standing goal of streamlined grants processing and plans to provide a web services interface for those institutions that want to use their existing grants management systems to directly submit proposals to NSF. ITEST Scale-up Small Group Webinar
ITEST Scale-up Small Group WebinarEvent Date: toAt the 2009 ITEST Summit, Chris Dede of the Harvard Graduate School of Education presented on “The Five Dimensions of Attaining Scale: Implications for ITEST Projects.”
The ITEST scale-up small group has been working with Chris - who is now an ITEST PI - over the past months to situate their work within this model and to identify and discuss key issues relevant to scale-up project PIs, partners, evaluators, and other key contributors.
On this webinar, Chris will provide a brief overview of his scale-up model {http://www.microsoft.com/education/demos/scale/index.html}, then the 3 currently-funded ITEST scale-up project PIs will share some specifics about their work/status in relation to the 5 dimensions of the model.
The last 15 minutes of the event will be an interactive discussion - please feel free to send questions in advance to Siobhan Bredin sbredin@edc.org .

Introduction to SMILE - The Science and Math Informal Learning Educators pathway
Introduction to SMILE - The Science and Math Informal Learning Educators pathwayEvent Date: toDo you spend a lot of time searching for high quality hands-on activities for your museum visitors? Have you developed science and math activities for out-of-school learners that you would like to share more broadly? Join us January 25–29 for an online ASTC Connect workshop to introduce new users to the Science and Math Informal Learning Educators (SMILE) pathway of the National Science Digital Library. See the beta site at http://www.howtosmile.org/ In this five-day workshop, Keith Braafladt and Asia Ward of the Learning Technologies Center at the Science Museum of Minnesota will introduce you to the structure of this online resource, and show you how to navigate the site to find activities. Learn how you can become one of a limited number of collaborators to apply for a seed grant that will fund you to enter your organization’s activities into this growing online catalog resource.
