Uncovering the Hidden Curriculum of DRK-12 Awards: Tips and Tools for Writing Successful NSF Grant Proposals

This NARST preconference workshop will comprise relevant information for writing and refining an NSF DRK-12 grant proposal. The participants will the chance to engage various resources and materials created by the leaders of CADRE (Community for the Advancement of Discovery Research in Education). These resources include but are not limited to how to craft a strong project narrative, identify a robust team, build community partners, and develop a worthwhile budget.

This workshop will prepare social and behavioral science and education researchers for the submission of a NSF Mid-scale Research Infrastructure proposal. The workshop focuses specifically on development of the Project Execution Plan (PEP), which guides the project management for such a project. Workshop participants will gain an understanding of what a PEP is, what PEP requirements are for NSF Midscale proposals and how to develop an effective PEP for their project.

This meeting highlighted issues in the NRC report, Successful K-12 STEM Education, with a special focus on partnerships to promote K-12 STEM learning and teaching. It included breakout sessions on projects, resources, and initiatives that align with the report’s evidence base on effective instruction, access to high quality STEM for all students, and building supportive infrastructure.
