Dear Colleagues,
We have several announcements that we’re excited to share with you:
- NSF has asked us to host a 2025 DRK-12 PI Meeting. Please mark June 9-11, 2025, on your calendars, and PIs of active awards should watch their inboxes for a Save the Date message.
- CADRE is now accepting applications from early career STEM education scholars from EPSCoR jurisdictions and rural areas for the 2025 CADRE Fellows program. The application deadline is November 29, 2024. Learn more about the program.
- If you’re a new DRK-12 awardee, please join us for an orientation to meet other new awardees, discuss project implementation topics, and learn about CADRE’s services. Registration information was shared in an invitation email sent out on October 22.
This newsletter features a Spotlight on Physical Sciences: Chemistry and Physics Education. This Spotlight showcases seven innovative DRK-12 projects transforming the teaching and learning of chemistry and physics, from dynamic visualizations to adaptive technology. Ramon E. Lopez also explores the future of physics education, highlighting the challenges and opportunities of integrating cutting-edge advances into preK-12 classrooms. Our focus this month on chemistry and physics, two of the four physical sciences (in addition to earth science and astronomy), builds on past physical science-focused Spotlights on Earth and Environmental Science and Astronomy and Space Sciences.
The DRK-12 community may virtually attend NSF’s upcoming Directorate for STEM Education (EDU) Advisory Committee meeting on November 13-14, 2024. Read the agenda and register here. If you’re interested in agency activities, you may also want to follow the Advisory Committee for Environmental Research and Education, which makes recommendations that concern NSF's environmental research and education portfolio, or the Committee on Equal Opportunity in Science and Engineering (CEOSE), which met this month and shared recommendations from their 2023-24 report. Read more about the CEOSE meeting agenda.
Best,
The CADRE Team
Physical Sciences: Chemistry & Physics Education | Spotlight

2025 CADRE Fellows Program | New Application
CADRE is now accepting applications for the 2025 CADRE Fellows program. The January-July program will provide professional growth opportunities for up to 10 early career professionals in the field of preK-12 STEM education.
To support NSF in its charge to expand opportunities for individuals in EPSCoR jurisdictions and rural areas, this year we’re tailoring the program to the needs and interests of these populations. We invite early career scholars from institutions in EPSCoR jurisdictions and rural areas to apply. If you are a more senior scholar and know someone who may be a good fit for the program, we encourage you to share this opportunity.
Applications are due by 5 PM ET on Friday, November 29, 2024.
Questions? Register to attend a Q&A session on November 4, 2024, 4-5 PM ET. Or contact cadre@edc.org.
![]() Project Tip: Project Management ResourcesFor those just starting their projects or developing a proposal, it’s important to develop a plan early in the process for the systems, structures, norms, and practices you’ll need to establish to ensure smooth project execution, e.g., managing your team, collecting data, negotiating authorship. Watch CADRE co-PIs Drs. Ilana Horn and Terrell Morton discuss their experiences and helpful insights in these areas. Find more project management resources in CADRE’s toolkit. |
