Georgia Tech Postdoctoral Fellow Position

Georgia Tech Postdoctoral Fellow Position Available: Modeling and Research in Education

We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow with interest and experience in education, modeling, and
simulation to join our diverse team at CEISMC (Center for Education Integrating Mathematics, Science,
and Computing.)

The postdoctoral fellow will join our multidisciplinary, collaborative team of researchers to work on both:
- the EarSketch project, an NSF-funded DRK12 for teaching high school-level programming
through music mixing
- the AMP-IT-UP project, an NSF-funded MSP for bringing advanced manufacturing- themed
curriculum to 6-9th grades

The postdoc will be heavily involved in modeling and simulating school settings in which EarSketch is
being implemented, in order to identify key barriers and enablers to intervention implementation. This
will involve social network analysis, agent-based modeling, programming, statistical analysis, and
developing instruments for measuring key attributes. A framework (protocol) has been developed for this
work, but will be further developed by the AMP-IT-UP team, working with public policy experts and
education researchers to continually improve the modeling process. The postdoc may also choose to get
involved with other aspect(s) of the projects, including curriculum development, classroom observations,
student learning, and assessments. Opportunities for publication and conference presentations are
available.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• PhD in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline
• Experience in modeling and simulation
• Programming experience (any language)—current models are coded in C#
Preferred:
• Experience in optimization
• Experience or interest in STEM education
• Interest in K-12 education

We seek a candidate who can start in Spring or Summer of 2015 with a negotiable start date. Salary will
be dependent on level of expertise and experience. Applicants should be prepared to make a two-year
commitment; renewal for the second year will be contingent on performance in Year 1.
